Legislative Update: Advocating for Short-Term Rental Owners

The Legislative session is in full swing and ends shortly. We are at the Capitol representing our members and the short-term rental community. We were there to testify against House Bill 342, proposed by County Tax Assessors, which would negatively affect commercial properties by altering property tax statutes. With the Assessors actions to re-classify STR’s as commercial, this bill will negatively impact our STR community. We are continuing to support the effort to change the state statute that allows for this property tax re-classification.

Additionally, we emailed all Representatives asking for a “No” vote regarding House Bill 215, which targets the use of dynamic pricing software for short-term rental pricing. Dynamic pricing software has become a vital tool for managing short-term rental pricing.

We would like to thank our Public Policy Committee for showing up on our behalf.

Additionally, we ask you to consider becoming a member and support our professional association as we work for reasonable regulations through legislative advocacy.

How Is Short-Term Rental Hosting Changing in Your Community?

As we grow our statewide organization, our goal is to represent and support local short-term rental (STR) hosts like you. We understand that regulations and challenges vary by community, and we want to ensure your voice is heard.

Our membership is expanding, and we strive to provide relevant information for STR hosts across New Mexico. We invite you to join our community, participate in online forums, and share local updates so we can better understand the issues you’re facing and support your advocacy efforts.

Additionally, we are looking for Team Leaders across the state to contribute to our Governing Board. If you’re passionate about supporting  the right to rent STRs and are willing to commit to a volunteer leadership role, we’d love to hear from you.

Let’s work together to build a strong, united voice for New Mexico’s short-term rental community!
